5/15/2005 03:09:00 PM|||Buzz|||Newsweek now admits that it's story about US Soldiers at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba flushing a Qur'an down a toilet was not true. 15 people died in Afghanistan while protesting this alleged US action as unrest flared up throughout the Muslim world in the wake of the erroneous Newsweek report.

While Newsweek admits an error in reporting, reporter Evan Thomas suggests (click here for article) that it's all the military's fault since they've abused so many Muslim already:
Given all that has been reported about the treatment of detainees....the reports of Qur'an desecration seemed shocking but not incredible.

Let me get this straight: Newsweek reports a phony story, violence erupts and people die, yet the smear campaign of US Soldiers continues. This is more than outrageous.
